I downloaded the Kindle version when it was available at no cost from Amazon. It read very quickly, like the outline of a proposal for a 3D PG movie. Not having read YA horror stories in some time, I have difficulty assessing the quality of this book compared to other recent works.

After I finished reading the book, I started it over again with Kindle's Text-to-Speech turned on. It's pretty humorous to hear sound effects such as "ZZZ" vocalized as three separate letters ("Z", "Z", "Z").

I'd recommend doing a little research before reading this book - find images of the bugs in the book - toe-biters, assassin bugs, etc. and keep these images in mind. While Cordiner does an effective job of describing these upsized insects, it would help the reader to start with a better understanding of how the originals looked.

The author sent me a copy of this book to read. I believe that it is really good book. I work in a school media center and am always looking for books to recommend. This is one I will be sure to add to my list. The story sort of reminded me of Jurassic Park but without the gore. The sound effects definitely add to the story suspense. '
I bought this book on nov.2nd and read it a few days later. I can't believe how much I enjoyed it. You think its scary when the fog starts rolling in, wait until its gone. Great reading for kids of all ages.I enjoyed it so much that I hope that there will be a second book in the works. What would happen if the bugs got to the mainland. That is a scary thought.....
This is basically a book about giant bugs killing and eating people. In the blurb about the book, it states that this book is suitable for ages 8 and up. I disagree. I think this would give children nightmares. While the book did have some writing problems, it was basically written well enough, but the premise was not logical. None of it. The fog and reason for it coming and going. The giant thinking bugs. The "hibernation."

SPOILER It ends with everyone getting killed. The premise that the giant bugs were once people and that the people they bite or scratch, but don't eat become more bugs is not very logical at all. I was not a happy camper when I finished this book.
And Bug Island proved a point. I really liked this book. I was so intrigued with the concept that I bought and stayed glued reading for two solid hours. Best time I ever let slip away. I will never 'look' at a bug the same again. Just smash and run. That's all I can say...just smash and run. The bug description at the back of the book is a great addition. I recommend this book with a smile and a warning...smash and run.
Although this is a YA book, as a 41 year old woman, I LOVED IT!!!

From the first page on, R.G. Cordiner manages to build up suspense at a lightning quick pace and not letting the reader take a breath... The fog is thick... the bugs are huge... and the humans are terrified... There are a couple of surprise twists in the story and the ending had me gasping in shock.

An excellent book for readers of all ages!!
This was good however there was mistakes in the book and was okay for a ten year old and up because it is a very scary book but it was interesting. Also you R my new favorite arthur and your books are great just improve in your grammar a little and you'll be the most famous arthur!
This is a fast paced book that is written to be readable by young adults and adults alike. Vocabulary is appropriate for a wide range of readers and the story is fast paced and action packed. This is not a warm and fuzzy story with a happy ending, and may be scary for some readers. It is a story that will appeal to people who like action as well as a creative plot that is unpredictable and makes you want to flip to the end to see what happens. I would rate it a 3 1/2 (as I like happy endings) but have rounded to a 4 recognizing that not everyone requires a happy ending in a story.
